Prophetic?

Yesterday, A was saying the "star light, star bright" rhyme. At the end, I asked him what he was going to wish for.

A- I'm wishing for a house.
Me- A house? But we have one. Don't you like ours?
A- Yea, but I'm wishing for a NEW house.
Me- You want a new house?
A- Not a new house, just a new color.
Me- What color house are you wishing for?
A- Purple.

I hope he's not prophetic!

I love fall! It's my favorite season of the year. It's taken me years to realize that because my love for the season was always overshadowed by the dread of school starting as a student and a teacher. But now that neither homework nor lesson plans are in my near future, I have realized how much I love fall. The weather, the clothing, the food!

We've been baking and cooking like crazy. Made some zucchini bread and pumpkin soup this week. On the docket for this weekend: cinnamon apple bread, granola, another batch of zucchini bread and...well, that list just got cut short because C just woke up from his 3 hour nap after only ONE hour. Grrrr... yesterday he didn't nap at all! Oh man, I am not ready for him to be nap-free.

Oh, well. There's the update for now. I think we're going to head to the park this afternoon with Aunt K.

One quick story while C entertains himself in the crib: A helped me bake zucchini bread this week. He asked if he could taste the cinnamon, so I told him a little taste would be alright. He dumped out a good two tablespoons of cinnamon in his hand and before I could stop him shoved it all in his mouth! He learned a very valuable life lesson: Some things in life (for example cinnamon) are wonderful in small doses but are horrible if we have too much.

Have a great weekend!

NC Pics... A little Late

Thanks, mom, for reminding me that I hadn't posted pics from our NC trip this summer. I must have forgotten in the aftermath of the trip as I was dealing with the whole identity theft issue. So, without further delay, here are some pics from our super fun trip this summer. I didn't get too many because my camera kept fogging up from the humidity. Here are some of the better shots I got.

A little miscommunication

Several months ago, we drove down 75 and I pointed out the green water tower outside the GE plant. I told A that is where our friend, Miss C, works. Today, we drove by and of course he remembered. He pointed out the green water tower and was so excited. Then he asked, "Mommy, what does Miss C do when she is in the water tower?" He was a little disappointed when I explained that she doesn't actually work IN the water tower. I guess next time I should be more clear.

Res-o-aloe-bee

With the start of school, we have reached a stage when P and I are no longer the sole authorities in A's life. I know that kids often see their teachers as infallible, but it's so funny to see this in our sweet little boy.

Despite the tears every morning, he's really having a great time at school. Lately, he's been singing some songs that he's learned at school. My favorite today was:

(sung to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell)

"Res-o-aloe-bee. Res-o-aloe-bee.
Taking care of you and me.
Res-o-aloe-bee."

After hearing this confusing song a few times, it finally clicked with me what his teachers must have been saying. I told A that his teachers were probably saying "responsibility" and maybe he just misheard them. His response:

(invision the eyes rolling, and hear the voice of a teenager)
Moooooom, it's res-o-aloe-bee. You weren't there. You were all the way back here, so you didn't hear them.

No amount of debate could sway his opinion on this! Little Mr. Independent was convinced that I was clueless. Too funny!

Some Fun Summer Pics

How sweet is this?! We took a trip to Totter's Otterville in NKY with my sis, her kids and my mom. It was so much fun! Here's Dr. A taking care of a sick horse.
Another fun trip this summer. This time, we met my sis, her kids and my mom at Glenwood Gardens. I love, love, love this pic of C and my nephew Mr. Newton. C loves babies, especially this one.

Another great day trip- we ventured up to Dayton to a farm with Gramma C. We had so much fun and got to see some cool animals.

Six months after A's last speech class, we met up with a few of his friends at the zoo. It was a great day, and he sure loved seeing those kids again. It was also so fun to hear them communicating with each other so well after they all had so few words just a few months ago. Here's A on the carousel with his friend, Violette.

First Day of School

A started school. He did great. A few tears, but they didn't last long the teacher said. Today was his second day, and same scenario. I'm hoping the tears stop soon. It makes it hard to walk away, but I know he will love it once he's there. He loves the trucks, slides, tree house, and snack, though today's carrots and celery didn't quite cut it for this picky eater. He was also extremely excited to be in the red group and he loved getting to sit on a carpet square with the letter A on it.

C, on the other hand, isn't a fan of school. He cries on and off pretty much the whole time A is gone. He gets this pouty face and starts calling for A. I even tried to take him to a park today, but it didn't work. We were there for almost 45 min. and I think he went down a slide twice. He just sat and moped. I hope that ends soon, too.
